Ouchy Momma!

Well my "surgery" went well. I no longer have my wisdom teeth. This picture was right after I got home. I was still pretty tired if you can't tell. My mouth has been pretty sore and swollen. I still can't open my mouth very wide, so that kind of stinks. I'm so sick of eating pudding and cottage cheese. Hopefully the swelling will go down in the next couple of days. Today the bruises are really noticeable, so I decided to stay indoors so I didn't get any weird looks : ).

Other than that...Justus is a sick little boy. He has a cough and a runny nose. He doesn't seem to care though. He doesn't have a fever and he is still in a good mood, so I'm very thankful for that. He is really starting to enjoy his Bounce and Spin Zebra. He can now get on and off all by himself. He's starting to understand how to bounce on it, but he's not quite there yet. He is also getting a little better at eating new things. Jon and I have figured out that if we are eating it, he will usually try it. He's tried eggs, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a few other things. He's doing pretty good. I'm still not sure if we could get him to try them on his own, without us eating it too, but for now this works.

Matthias is getting big too! I can't believe he will be 3 months old on Friday!! He is starting to be more alert, and he is a pretty easy smile now. I'm still waiting for him to laugh. The past two nights he has slept until 6 a.m. We are hoping this continues so that we can move him into his crib. We will see what the next few nights bring.

Nothing really new going on here. I get my wisdom teeth out on Friday. I'm a little nervous, so be praying for me. I just wanted to post some new pictures.

So, as you can see from the last post...Matthias is now smiling! It's the greatest thing to look at him, smile and for him to smile back. I just love it!! It's just another sign that he's getting bigger : (. He's becoming more alert as well, which is kind of nice. I just can't believe he already 2 1/2 months old!

Justus is getting bigger too. I can't believe how big he is. He has lost his "infant" look and is starting to look more and more like a little boy everyday. He's so smart too! It's so cute to watch him explore. He is getting good at stacking blocks and just figuring things out. We are going to be in trouble when he gets a little taller because he already has a fascination with opening and closing doors, and he knows the knob has somthing to do with that. When he shuts a door all the way he reaches up to try to grab the knob. Justus is also starting to understand a lot more things that we say. He will usually come to us when we say, "Justus, come here." Not always will he come, but he usually will. He also understands that when we put our hand out and say, "let me see" that we want what he has. The only time he is hesitant is when it's food. He really likes to hand us balls so that we will throw them so he can go it and bring it back. He has fun doing it, although I feel as though I'm playing "fetch" with him. We are still having a pretty hard time getting him to eat things. We are still feeding him jar food so that he is getting enough fruits and vegetables. We've tried to introduce a few things, but he still isn't too willing to try things.

Nothing else new. I get to pick up Matthias' pictures on Friday! I'm pretty excited to get to hang one up in the living room since the walls are dominated by photos of Justus right now. I know Matthias doesn't know the difference though. Here's a couple of pictures...

1st Smiles

I just wanted to post a picture of Matthias' first smile. He is too cute!!!

2 Months Old Already!?!

Wow...time sure flies!! Matthias had his 2 month check-up last Thursday (the 3rd). He weighed 13 lbs. 4 oz. and was 22 3/4 inches long. He is in the 90th percentile on weight and slightly below the 50th on height. I wasn't surprised though...Justus was the same exact way until he hit about 6 months. He's getting big though. He also had to get his first set of shots. He did pretty good with them, but was pretty cranky the rest of the day. He ended up sleeping from about 10 p.m. - 5 a.m., so that was kind of nice. He has consistently been skipping a feeding, so usually his first feeding is between 3-4 a.m. It's nice to only have to get up once in the middle of the night instead of 2-3 times.

So we think that Justus has learned his first word...."mama". He says it to me sometimes when I have something that he wants or he wants my attention. It's hard to distinguish though when he is saying "mama" and when he is just babbling though. There have been several times that he has used the word in the right context though. It's pretty exciting to hear him say it! Jon and I have also been working with him in stacking blocks. He is getting pretty good. He understands what we are doing, and tries to stack the blocks. When we first started he would just kind of throw the block, but now he is actually setting the blocks on top of each other. He also has a giraffe that you can drop blocks into, and there is a door at the bottom that if you open they all come tumbling out...well, he has learned how to drop the blocks down, and open the door. It is so amazing to watch him discover and learn new things!! One last bit of Justus news...we have started brushing his teeth. We probably should have started way before now, but he didn't get his first tooth until the beginning of October...he now has six!! He is okay with the whole teeth brushing thing...he thinks it's kind of funny. He likes to "eat" the toothbrush though. He's getting the hang of it though.

Not much else is new. I went and applied for Matthias Social Security number today, which was just craziness, but he should have a number within a couple of weeks : ). Here are a few new pictures of the boys...

Happy New Year!!! Here are a couple videos from Justus' birthday and from Christmas! Hope everyone is having a great New Year's Day!!!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!! We sure did!! Christmas Eve was spent at my parents' house. We had a good time. We ordered pizza and opened presents. We definitely had a good time hanging out with my family and getting lots of presents : ). Christmas day was spent at home. Jon and I got up at around 7:30 and exchanged our gifts. My favorite gift by far was one I had actually received the night before from Jon. Jon had written a song for me when he proposed, and one of our friends from college actually has his own recording studio. Jon had been going over there and recording the song with him. Our friend played the guitar and bass and added drums and Jon sang the song and even added a new verse. My parents had bought me a iPod shuffle and Jon had gotten it from them and uploaded the song onto it, so that I would hear it when I turned the iPod on. It was very sweet and now it is something I will have forever!

Justus seemed to enjoy Christmas, although he isn't really into opening the presents yet. He would rather just play with them. He ended up getting some clothes, books, a bounce and spin zebra, and a little table that has lots of buttons that play music. We decided to get him a few toys since we really don't have any big toys for him. Matthias, of course, didn't know the difference between Christmas and any other day.


In other news, Justus had his 1-year check-up at the doctor. He now weighs 25 lbs. and is 30 3/4 inches tall. He is in the 75th percentile on both. He also had to get two shots at the doctor, which he did not enjoy. He doesn't go back until he is 18 months old. Matthias actually goes to the doctor next week! I am very curious to see how big he has gotten.


Last week we found out that Jon's car needs a new engine. We were kind of upset about it since we had just spent a ton of money getting the car fixed just a couple of months ago. His car isn't worth that much money, so I think we are just going to get him a used Civic. We haven't fully decided what we are going to do, but Jon's dad is letting us borrow his extra car until we figure things out. We're very thankful that his dad had a car that we were able to use!!
